Dog "School": Cut, Paste, Spell Check
There's another trick that's quite similar to Copy and Paste, but it is used when you want to move a section of a document to another location within the document. Let's try it.
Let's move the first sentence of our document to the end of the document. First we'll use the mouse to highlight the sentence we want to move. Then we'll go to the Edit menu and click on "Cut." Now we'll move the cursor to the end of the document, go to the Edit menu, and click on "Paste." There's our sentence at the end of the document, and it's gone from the beginning.
We can also do the same thing using the Cut and Paste icons on the toolbar. Let's try it. Let's highlight what are now the first two sentences and click on the "Cut" icon. Then, we'll reposition the cursor and click on the "Paste" icon. We've done it again!
Remember the difference between Copy and Cut. Copy leaves the original text where it was. Cut erases it.
Let's try another trick while we're at it. It's the spell checker. To see how this works, lets intentionally misspell a word. How about "University?" We'll take out the e in the middle. Now let's go to the Tools menu and click on "Spelling." The computer will now go through our document and present any words it doesn't recognize, along with suggestions as to the possible correct word. If the word is correct as is, we just click on "Ignore." If we want the computer to change the word to one it recognizes, we just click on "Change."
Remember to use the spell checker on all the documents you turn in to your professors. Also remember that the spell checker won't find all errors. If a word is found in the dictionary but is used incorrectly, the computer won't recognize that there is a problem.
